Taking Us Higher

Writen by Jason Gibson.

There has been another massive development of infrastructure around the three valleys.

The largest ski area in the world just keeps getting better and better.

In Courchevel, the popular Plantrey lift, the first ever high speed 4 person lift in the world way back in 1983, has now been replaced by an even faster 6 person chair.

In Meribel the news is all about the replacement of the Saulire Burgin lift with a new high-tec, high-speed express 8 person gondola. This will not only cut journey times but has a new arrival point having ascended through the Tournier couloir, giving direct access to the Grand Couloir in Courchevel as well as the couloirs on the Meribel side and of course direct piste access to Courchevel and Meribel. There will even be a new green piste from the mid station. The second (top) stage will be complete this season, with the first stage to follow in 2012.

Further afield the new Funitel de Thorens in Val Thorens is adding a whole set of options for off piste adventure into the Bouchet Valley as well as 2 new runs – 1 red and 1 blue.

Along with lift developments there have been further installments of snow cannons such as down towards Le Praz on the Murettes piste and piste widening such as the Lac de la Chambre. All we can say is ‘we can’t wait, bring on the snow’….
