Jon’s Skiing Bucket List

Writen by Jason Gibson.

As we enjoy an amazing summer of sport and bask in the soaring temperatures you would think that skiing is the last thing on our minds here at Sweet Snowsports. However it doesn’t take much to get us thinking about the winter especially when we are asked what activities would find their way on to our skiing ‘Bucket List’.

Here are a few of the things that Jon would like to do over the coming years.

  • The opportunity to go ski-touring with my friends on the Haute Route is a life long dream. This is probably the most famous ski touring route in the world and starts in Chamonix, France and finishes 180km away in Zermatt, Switzerland. As you make your way through some of the best scenery that the Alps has to offer accommodation is in high-mountain huts that are strategically located along the route. This without any doubt is my idea of a perfect ski trip, now would anyone like to join me?!
  • Spending a weekend at the famous Hahnenkahmm Downhill at Kitzbuhel in Austria would definitely have to be near the top of any list. Being part of the 50000 strong crowd in a country where skiing is more of a religion than a sport, to witness the best skiers in the world throw themselves down the 2 mile course, would set anyone’s adrenaline racing.
  • I’ve never met a skier instructor who doesn’t get excited at the prospect of going Heli-Skiing but this takes it to another level. Heli-Ski-Cruising looks like a great way to spend a few days with your mates but at a $118,000 for exclusive use of the boat and helicopter it doesn’t come cheap! To see why I like this one so much click here.
  • Although this is not quite skiing I’d love to take my Fiancée on a trip inside the Arctic Circle to experience the Northern Lights. There are some great tours on offer and several where you can even take charge of your own team of Huskies. It sounds like hard work but a trip that rewards you with once in a lifetime views. Now there’s a thought perhaps we could have our Honeymoon there….OK maybe not!

Next up is Mark and we’ll be posting his ‘Bucket List’ next month but in the meantime if you have any of your own ideas please visit The Sweet Snowsports Facebook page and post them there.
